The Founding of Jam for Jesus!

Dancing at the night club is a popular form of entertainment for most young people
today, and so it was with me. But as I grew in my Christian walk, I became
uncomfortable with the dance hall scene.
The smell of alcohol, the fumes of marijuana and cigarettes smoke, the provocative
dressing, dirty dancing, profanity and promiscuity leaves me with a feeling of emptiness..
I eventually stop going to the disco clubs but I never lost my love for good music. I
started to collect gospel music in the beat of reggae, rap, jazz, R&B, rock and house
music. I began to put together a concert in my mind, one where there would be music
and dancing without the negative elements of the dance hall vibes. The concert that was
envision would be held in an environment where my God would not mind attending a
joyful gathering fill with beautiful and progressive people from all walks of life. You see
throughout my journey in the Christian way of life I had gotten used to having Him with
me at all time and I never wanted to be without Him.
The first concert was organized and held in New York City in 1997, and it was called
MUSIC WITH GOD IN MIND. In 1998 I moved to the state of Florida, and upon my
arrival God showed me a building and told me in a vision that this would be the perfect
place for the concert. I began to dig up old flyer's once again and started to put the
concert in a business plan. To achieved this goal I was told that a corporation would
have to be formed which would grant or enable us to get funding to buy the building.
The building envision would be called DAVID HOUSE OF PRAISE, because King David
was praising God, he begun to sing and dance while he played his harp. I know he loved
music the way we all do.
The corporation was formed under the name IGWAT, (meaning In God We All Trust):
and the concert Jam For Jesus is a subsidiary of IGWAT founded in 2000 by Devan
Mair with a focus on the future for youth of all denomination. Jam for Jesus is a
dinner/dance format which include a live entertainment section to minster God/s word in
music to provide Christian based enjoyment on a platform for players of instrument to
perform.
After the corporation was formed I spoke to several progressive people about the idea
and in doing so I met Minister Darrell Wood who is an avid music fan, he collected all
gospel music. Minister Wood has put on many concerts secular and gospel, one of
which he called Jesus Jam. He had all the information I needed to start and we put
together our first concert in three weeks. Through the artistic skills and dire support of
the performers the concert went on to be a great success and it was well received by the
community. From all the support and attention we gain from this first show we felt that
there was a real need for more creative venue such as this one and we begun to plan for
the work on future shows.
Through our planning stages for other concerts we received a call from Minister Kevin
Williams, who had attended the concert and liked the performance and he wanted to
know if he could be part of our committee so we formed a committee and made him
President. He was anointed and blessed and he was so awesome in organizing which
allowed the committee to prosper and grew very fast. He brought in his sister Natasha
Grant who was our secretary and she was in charge also with the maintenance of the
concerts. My sister Dawn Reid who is one of my biggest supporter joined us and she
was in charge of the food and refreshment department. My son Jason Mair one of my
biggest fan was in charge of the vendors, and my other children was a great assistance
and motivator to our growth and success.
We eventually add two additional team player to our committee Minister Tony Palmer,
another anointed young man, and Minister Donnaree Rose, a bookkeeper, decorator and
evangelist, just what we needed to improve on our goals. We designed our uniforms, we
put together a trophy for our artists which had our own logo and it became a household
name to many. The theme for our Jam For Jesus concert was Holy Ghost Party. We
found out that the holy ghost always showed up, took over and set it off. That is our
core group but at the end of each concert everybody lends an helping hand to set up and
break down, set up for dinner, clean up and pick up whatever the need is they was
always ready to assist with the chores.
In 2009 we plan to enlarge our tent so to speak, by extending our goals and visions to a
new and improved building which will include a restaurant, movie theatre, gift
shop/bookstore, chapel and childcare. This location will also house a banquet room for
church function, classroom, conference and seminar areas, plus a large stage for big
concerts. I keep thinking all I wanted to do was continue dancing: how did that leads to
this concert venue, only God knows...Smile!
God is fully in control in the spiritual and physical affairs of Jam For Jesus, I am an
expert at a lot of things but in this area I have humbled myself to listen to Him, so His
will, will be done. He gave us the vision and He is going to see it through. Thank you for
your visit to our website and for your time and patience in reading this brief summary of
our committee. We hope you will check out the various articles, prayers and special
events included in this site by clicking on the desired links to view its content.
May the Divine Grace and Mercy of our Good Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ be
